Vincentas Kuprys was born on March 25, 1937 in Paskerdumis, Kėdainiai district, to a family of farmers Vincentas Kuprys and Jadvyga Žemaitytė-Kuprienė.
In 1941–1947, the family was exiled to Altai Krai, Siberia. The father perished in the labour camp in Krasnoyarsk in 1941.
In 1947–1949, the mother and four children illegally lived in Lithuania.
In 1949, the family was arrested and exiled to Bodaybo in Irkutsk Oblast.
In 1955, Kuprys graduated from the Novosibirsk secondary school.
In 1956–1961, he studied at the M. Mussorgsky Conservatory in Ural (Sverdlovsk, presently Yekaterinburg, Russia).
In 1959–1968, he was a soloist with the Sverdlovsk (presently Yekaterinburg) Opera and Ballet Theatre where he appeared in 45 roles including Gremin (Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin), Konchak and Galitsky (Borodin’s Prince Igor), Khovansky (Mussorgsky’s Khovanshchina), Ruslan and Farlaf (Glinka’s Ruslan and Lyudmila), the Miller (Dargomyzhsky’s Rusalka), Don Basilio (Rossini’s Il barbiere di Siviglia), Leporello (Mozart’s Don Giovanni), Sparafucile (Verdi’s Rigoletto) and Méphistophélès (Gounod’s Faust).
In 1968–2000, he was a soloist with the Lithuanian Opera and Ballet Theatre (presently the Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theatre) where he appeared in 45 roles including Philippe (Verdi’s Don Carlos), the King (Wagner’s Lohengrin), Raimondo (Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor), Salieri (Rimsky-Korsakov’s Mozart and Salieri), Daland (Wagner’s Der fliegende Holländer), Boris Godunov (Mussorgsky’s Boris Godunov), Rocco (Beethoven’s Fidelio), Il Commendatore
(Mozart’s Don Giovanni) and Uberto (Pergolesi’s La serva padrona), as well as roles in Lithuanian operas such as Rimvydas (J. Karnavičius’ Gražina), Ulrichas (V. Klova’s Pilėnai (Defenders of the Castle)), Viziris (V. Barkauskas’ Legenda apie meilę (Legend about Love)), Vydūnas  (V. Paltanavičius’ Kryžkelėje (At the Crossroad)), Kristijonas (A. Bražinskas’ Kristijonas), Skrodskis (J. Juzeliūnas’ Sukilėliai (Insurgents)).
In 1974, Kuprys was merited with the title of the Distinguished Artist
In 1980, he was named the People’s Artist
In 1986–1998, Kuprys taught in the Vocal Performance Department at the Lithuanian Academy of music and Theatre
In 1998, he was decorated with the 5th Class Order of the Grand Duke of Lithuania Gediminas

In 1968–2007, he contributed over 150 recordings to the Lithuanian Radio Archive, gave more than 300 various solo recitals, recorded CDs: opera arias and songs (33 C 1 – 12123-24); Shchedrin’s opera Not Only Love (33 C 10 – 06847-50); a double CD (2007): 1st – songs and opera arias by Lithuanian composers, Schubert, Grieg, Massenet, Wolf and R. Strauss, 2nd – songs and opera arias by Russian composers.
He gave concerts in Europe, the USA, Canada, Australia and Russia.
Kuprys is a board member of Vladas Jakubėnas Society; a co-founder of the Czesław Miłosz Birthplace Foundation; the president of the Club of Kėdainiai residents; the founder and the first president of the Society of Economic-Cultural Collaboration between Lithuania and Greece; the president of the Society of the recipients of the Orders of the Grand Duke of Lithuania Gediminas; a member of the Lithuanian Musicians’ Union.
