Edvinas Minkstimas (b.1980) studied music at J. Naujalis Gymnasium of Music, Kaunas. In 1997 – 2003, he studied piano at the Lithuanian Academy of Music with Prof. V. Vitaitė, in 2002, at the National Conservatoire of Paris (Conservatoire National Supérieure de Musique de Paris) with M. Beroff. In 2003, the performer received an MA from both institutions. Currently, Edvinas Minkstimas is studying at The Juilliard School in New York with Jerome Lowenthal. The pianist has attended master classes held by B. Hesse-Bukowska, N. Petroff, V. Ashkenazy, I. Biret, and M. Francoise-Bucquet.


Minkstimas’s biography as a soloist started in 1995, when 14 years of age he performed Grieg’s Concerto for Piano and Orchestra A minor together with the Lithuanian National Philharmonic Orchestra. Later the pianist performed together with the Lithuanian Chamber (Lietuvos kamerinis) (led by S.Sondeckis) and Lithuanian Academy of Music Symphony Orchestras under the baton of Lithuanian and foreign conductors. Since 1990, Minkstimas has been performing abroad: in Russia, Byelorussia, Poland, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Hungary, Canada and USA.


Edvinas Minkstimas is one of the most prominent young Lithuanian pianists; he is well known to Lithuanian and foreign music professionals and audiences. At the age of 24 he is a laureate of nine international piano competitions including P. Tchaikovsky (Moscow, 1992) and L.Knezkova-Hussey (Canada, Bathurst, 1996).


In 2001, Minkstimas won The International Competition European Piano Days in Pontoise (France), and in 2002 and 2003, The International Competition Music without Limits (Muzika be sienų) in Lithuania. In 2007 the pianist won the 1st Prize in the International  Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis Piano and Organ Competition.


In 2002, the pianist performed in Denmark and France as well as to Charles, Prince of Wales, the heir to the throne of the United Kingdom, during his visit to Lithuania.


In February and November 2003, Minkstimas gave two particularly successful concerts at the Corcoran Gallery of Art and US Baltic Foundation Annual Gala in Washington, in collaboration with the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania in USA.
In 2001, Minkstimas was granted a two-year residency at the prestigious Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris. In summer 2002, he as a soloist and performer of chamber music participated in Summer Music Festival held by the Music Academy of the West in Santa Barbara (USA, California).


Minkstimas has won many scholarships and prizes including those from the Lithuanian Ministry of Culture, Meyer Foundation in France and Music Academy of the West.


Edvinas Minkstimas has also tried composition. He has written opuses for piano, chamber and symphony orchestras, which he has repeatedly performed in Lithuania and abroad. He has recorded a CD including opuses for piano solo and with orchestra, such as Concerto D minor No.1 by J. Brahms, Concerto F minor No.2 by F. Chopin and Concerto for the Left Hand by M. Ravel.
