Since 1996 Deividas Staponkus was studying vocal performance in the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre (LAMT), in the class of prof. Eduardas Kaniava. In year 2002 he finished masters in LAMT. In year 2004 he finished postgraduate studies (Art Licentiate). He was improving his vocal skills at famous vocal teachers: prof. Louis Manikas (Germany), prof. Lilian Sukis (Austria), prof. Håkan Hågegard (Sweeden).
In year 2003 he became soloist-probationer (vocal performance teacher – prof. Virgilijus Noreika) in Opera studio at Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theatre (LNOBT). Since 2004 he sings in LNOBT with a debut in role of Marullo in the opera „Rigoletto“ of G.Verdi. Other performed roles: Belcore (G. Donizetti „L'elisir d'amore”), Count Almaviva (W.A.Mozart „Le nozze di Figaro“), Guglielmo (W.A.Mozart „Così fan tutte“), Shaman (B.Kutavičius „Ugnis ir tikėjimas“), Dr. Cajus (O. Nicolai „Die lustigen Weiber von Windsor“), Albert, “a sergeant” (F. Halevy „ La Juive“),Vicomte Cascada (F. Lehar „Die Lustige Witwe“), Fiorello (G.Rossini „Il barbiere di Siviglia“), Onégin (P. Tchaikovsky „Yevgény Onégin“), Barone Douphol (G. Verdi „La Traviata“), Dr Falke (J. Strauss „Die Fledermaus“), Hunter and Baobab (R.Portman „The little prince“), Moralès (G.Bizet „Carmen“), etc.
In year 2002 D. Staponkus performed the role of Guglielmo in Danish production of W. A. Mozart „Così fan tutte“ (director Sir Jonnathan Miller, conductor Manfred Honeck). In year 2005 he had tours to Warsaw’s „Teatr Wielki Opera Narodowa“ (Poland) together with LNOBT; together with LNOBT in year 2007 he had a tour in Ryga, in Latvian National Opera and in Miskolc Great Theatre (Hungary); in years 2008 and 2009 he participated in production of Lithuanian Opera in Chicago (USA). In year 2008 he was in the role of Capuletti in premieres of E. Wong opera „Romeo e Giulietta“ at Italian Città della Pieve Teatro Avvaloranti (director Karen Saillant (USA), conductor Simone Luti (Italy, Teatro alla Scala)).
D. Staponkus works together with Lithuanian Chamber and Symphonic groups, ensembles, participates in various festivals („Vilniaus festivalis“, „Oper Oderspree“ (Germany), „Opera Island Bornholm“ (Denmark), International Miskolc Opera Festival (Hungary), Sardinia’s International Festival of Opera music (Italy) etc.). He performed together with Szczecin (Poland) Symphonic Orchestra of Opera and Ballet Theatre, Brandenburg Frankfurt National Symphonic Orchestra (Germany), Symphonic Orchestra of Philharmonie Salzburg (Austria), Stockholm (Sweden) Baroque orchestras.
There were organized concerts-recitals together with A. Motuziene (piano) in Georges Enescu hall in Bucharest (Romania, 2008) and in Dion Center in Nashua (USA, 2009). In year 2008 he performed together with D. Kirilausku (piano) in S. Rakhmaninov hall in Moscow’s P. I. Tchaikovsky’s Conservatory. Soloist already had more than 500 concerts.
D. Staponkus has won many competitions for vocal performers: laureate of Stasys Baras competition 2003; laureate (I place) of International singers competition 2006 in Finland; was awarded with interpretation prize at international Opera courses „Oper Oder Spree 2007“ in Germany; laureate (II place) of International singers competition 2010 in Italy. In year 2004 he was awarded with Certificate of Appreciation singed by Lithuania’s Prime Minister Algirdas Brazauskas for work in music field in year 2003; in year 2007 he was awarded with Certificate of Appreciation singed by Lithuania’s President Valdas Adamkus for international achievements.
Since 2005 D. Staponkus as lecturer is teaching in Vocal Performance Department of LAMT (class students – laureates of republic and international competitions). In year 2008 gave singing master classes in The Liszt School of Music Weimar (Germany). In year 2010 gave singing master classes in The Mannheim University of Music and Performing Arts (Germany). In years 2009 and 2010 he was jury member of International Leoš Janáček singers competition (Czech Republic).
Besides singing D. Staponkus works in organizational and administrational fields too: he is coordinator of departments in Faculty of Musicology, Piano and Vocal Performance of LAMT; more over he is inspector of soloists in LNOBT. LNOBT sent him to the administration and management traineeship at Bregenzer Festspiele GmbH (Austria) in year 2005.
Since 11th of October, 2009 he is member of Lithuania’s Culture ministry‘s Council of culture and arts.
