Vilhelmina Mončytė was born in 1975 in Klaipėda. In 1994 she started her studies at the Choir Conducting Department of the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre (Prof. Algimantas Lopas, Assoc. Prof. Tadas Šumskas). In 1999 she joined the Singing Department of the same academy (the singing class of lector Jolanta Čiurilaitė, the chamber singing class of Prof. Regina Maciūtė). The singer has participated in the following competitions: Zenonas Paulauskas Young Singers’ Competition in 2000 (diploma); Juozas Gruodis Chamber Singing Competition in 2003 (2nd place diploma for her performance of French music). In 2000 and 2001 she sang during concerts of the LMTA Singing Department, Cantiamo, organised by the LNOBT. In 2006, at the international competition Iskustvo XXI veka in Kiev she won the 1st Prize. While still a student she sang the role of Countess Almaviva in W. A. Mozart’s opera The Marriage of Figaro. Mončytė has been giving concerts in Vilnius and other cities of Lithuania; she has toured abroad. She has attended master classes with Olga Kondina, Johannes von Duisburg and Eiddwen Harry. In 2003 she debuted on the stage of the Klaipėda Music Theatre.
At the end of her vocal studies, Vilma Mončytė prepared the role of Violetta Valery in G. Verdi’s opera La traviata at the Opera Studio of the LMTA. In 2006 she debuted on the stage of the LNOBT as Comtesse in J. Strauss’s operetta Viennese Blood. Her repertoire includes the roles of Tatyana and Larina (P. Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin), Misis Ford (O. Nicolai’s The Merry Wives of Windsor), Sister Angelica (G. Puccini’s Sister Angelica), Fata Morgana (S. Prokofiev’s The Love for Three Oranges), Eglė (V. Klova’s Pilėnai) and others.
In 2004 – 2006 Vilma Mončytė had an internship at the Opera Studio of LNOBT led by professors Virgilijus Noreika and Vytautas Viržonis.
