Stein Skjervold (f. 1973, Norway) has his master degree from the Norwegian State Academy of music, where he studied with prof. barbro Marklund and the world famous Swedish baritone Håkan Hagegård, and has also studied at the Grieg Academy in Bergen and at Hochschule für Theater und Musik in Hamburg.
Since finishing his studies, Stein Skjervold has been active both as a concert singer and as an opera singer. He has sung with the Norwegian National Opera as well as with most of the regional opera houses in Norway. He has also held numerous recitals and concerts in Norway and abroad, with a repertory that spans church music and opera, as well as contemporary music. His main interest lies in the lied- and song genre: he has performed almost all the main song cycles from the German Lied-tradition, as well as melodies and romances from Scandinavia, England, France and Russia.
During the last years, he has been an active singer in Lithuania, working with a long row of musicians; Rokas Zubovas, Sonata Zuboviene, Mindaugas Backus and Egle Andrejevaite, to mention a few. He has participated in many festivals, among them the Disobedient festival in Nida, the Grieg-Ciurlions festival in Kaunas, the Vox Academia festival in Nida, the Resurexit festival in Siaulai, the Tytuvenai festival and the Ciurlionis festival in Druskininkai.
He has also been a soloist with several choirs, chamber ensembles and orchestras, including the Vilnius Choir, the Ciurlionis String Quartet, the National Philharmonic Orchestra, the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra, Sv. Kristoforos orchestra, the Klaipeda chamber orchestra and the Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra.
In 2012 he was awarded the Ciurlionis Cup from the Ciurlionis Fund for his Norwegian-Lithuanian cultural work.
