Rusnė Mataitytė, a graduate of the National M. K. Čiurlionis Art School and Moscow P. Tschaikovsky Conservatoire, studied with famous Russian teachers of violin: Viktor Radovich, Valery Klimov and Igor Bezrodny. With their guidance she won the Jaroslav Kotsian Competition and became a laureate of David Oistrakh and Ludwig Spohr International Violin Competitions. The violinist also remembers the 1992 concert of Antonin Dvořák’s chamber music in Wiener Konzerthaus where she performed together with the famous Czech violinist Josef Suk. Later R. Mataitytė participated in many significant events: Ost-West Musikfest (Austria), Bradva Festival (Yugoslavia), Cascades (Germany), Gaida, Spring of Klaipėda (Klaipėdos pavasaris) and Christopher Summer festivals.
The violinist has a traditional violin repertoire and studies the most recent music. CDs of opuses by Eastern European composers (Proudsound, United Kingdom) and music by Osvaldas Balakauskas (ASV, UK; BIS, Sweden) that she has recorded were internationally acclaimed by critics.
As a soloist R. Mataitytė has performed together with symphony and chamber orchestras in Lithuania, Russia, Germany, Austria and Yugoslavia. Composers O. Balakauskas and A. Martinaitis have dedicated their concertos for violin to her, which she performed together with the Lithuanian National Symphony and St. Christopher Chamber Orchestras. With the latter the violinist has recorded a concert for violin and chamber orchestra that the English composer Sadie Harrison has dedicated to her.
R. Mataitytė is committed also to chamber music; she is a member of Kaskados Piano Trio and Gaida ensemble. Together with her permanent partner Margrit Julia Zimmermann, the violinist organised the Kaskados festival in Kassel (Germany) in 1997 – 2000; now Lithuanian ensembles often give concerts during the festivals and also play music by Lithuanian composers.
Among recent significant R. Mataitytė’s appearances on stage are concerts during Oldbore and Newberry festivals in England, Sao Paulo festival and Carnegie Hall in New York (USA). In 2003 she performed in the famous St. John’s, Smith Square, London. In 2004, together with the St. Christopher Chamber Orchestra she participated in the Europamusicale festival, Germany, and gave concerts in the most famous halls of Berlin, Munich and Leipzig.
The violinist’s recitals are often accompanied by exhibitions of her paintings.

The big news here, at least for me was Osvaldas Balakauskas Like The Touch of a Sea Wave. (…) It‘s a finely chiselled offering that suggests light on glistening crystals, the sort of peace Manfred Eicher might cull for his ECM label although I doubt that even he could commission a better performance than the one recorded here, where the Lithuanian-born violinist Rusne Mataityte and Russian-German pianist Margrit-Julia Zimmermann serve to underline the score‘s many stylistic subtleties. (…) Barkauskas (…) playful unaccompanied violin Partita was popularized by Gidon Kremer, whose violinistic wit must have made real mischief of its many jokes and surprises. Not that Mataityte can be found wanting. Her tonal palette is both wide and accommodating and she makes great play with the syncopated ”Toccata” fourth movement. (…) the performances are extremely convincing.
