In 1981 this duo, consisting of the Lithuanian Academy of Music graduates, Romualdas Lukošius and Rimantas Jurkonis, began its activity. The repertoire of the first seven years of the ensemble consisted of original pieces for two pianos written by various composers. Programs of concerts included pieces, fantasies, sonatas, and compositions by A.Vivaldi, J.S.Bach, W.A.Mozart, F.Liszt, F.Schubert, J.Brahms, F.Poulenc, S.Rachmaninov, C.Saint–Saens, W.Lutoslawski, S.Prokofjev, A.Chatchaturian, A.Gavrilin, B.Kutavicius, and other composers.

In 1988, an original transcription of G. Rossini musical themes, “A la Rossini”, written by Romualdas Lukošus was performed on scene. It was the start of a new direction in the Duo’s life. The musicians named their distinctive concert programs “Musical Jokes”. Programs consisted of adaptations and arrangements of R.Lukosius, surprising and snappy collations of different music, and improvisations written by the Duo. While changing the rhythm, harmony and tempo, the musicians play F.Chopin and L.Beethoven at the same time; E.Grieg’s musical passages greet D.Ellington’s “Caravan”; J.S.Bach is mixed together with G.Gershwin; N.Paganini’s variations are followed by W. A.Mozart; Ch.Gounod by Russian romances; themes from A.Rossini overtures mix together into a whirl so delightful for music lovers; A.Gavrilin’s  ”Tarantella” is entered by J.Brahms, C.Saint–Saens, and J.Straus; F.Liszt, J.Bizet, and Spanish songs perfectly combine in a Spanish rhapsody. “Musical Jokes” gained acknowledgment from listeners and musical critics. This encouraged the Duo to continue their search for their own special musical expression and to adopt musical masterpieces from various periods and genres while at the same time perfecting the precision and suggestibility of performance.

The Duo had many concerts in Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Russia, and Ukraine, and played with the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra conducted by professor Saulius Sondeckis.

The ensemble takes part in concerts organized by the union of Lithuanian musicians. The musicians have participated in concerts named “Great Parade of Musicians 2000” and “Great Parade of Musicians 2002” which took place at the Lithuanian National Philharmonic. Lithuanian National Television showed a TV program on the musical activity of the Duo.

R. Lukošius is the founder and art director of the unique international Piano Duo Festival organized by the Šiauliai City Philharmonic. The idea of an international festival was conceived in 1995. The festival has become an important phenomenon not only in Šiauliai but in all of Lithuania. In 2003 the Fifth International Piano Festival of Duos took place. Among famous pianists of Lithuania were R. and Z.Ibelhauptas, V.Vitaitė and R.Vaitkevičiūtė, S. and R.Zubovas, and the K.Grybauskas Ensemble. Also participating in the festival were duo masters from Latvia, Estonia, Ukraine, Poland, Finland, the USA, Šiauliai, Panevėžys, Klaipėda, Telšiai, Vilnius, and Riga. Everyone had a possibility to listen to the music performed by the participants of the festival.
