The Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre has lost Professor Aleksandra Juozapėnaitė-Eesmaa

On November 22, 2012 pianist and teacher, Professor of the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre Aleksandra Juozapėnaitė-Eesmaa died in Tallinn. The pianist was an experienced teacher, noted for her contributions to the Academy as well as the high professionalism of her work.

In 1968 Aleksandra Juozapėnaitė-Eesmaa won her first prize at the Čiurlionis Piano Competition for the best interpretation of Čiurlionis’s works. She has performed in many European countries, her repertoire included classical works, works from the twentieth century, as well as works by Lithuanian and Estonian composers, many of which she edited and was the first performer. Aleksandra Juozapėnaitė-Eesmaa was a jury member of international competitions, made recordings in various countries, has released CDs with works by Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis, Olivier Messiaen, Heino Eller and other composers.

For her merits Aleksandra Juozapėnaitė-Eesmaa was awarded order of the Lithuanian Grand Duke Gediminas (1999) and Heino Eller Prize (2002).
