HRH The Prince of Wales presented the prestigious Royal College of Music Award

On March 12 in London HRH The Prince of Wales handed violinist Agata Daraškaitė the prestigious Royal College of Music Award for outstanding achievements during her studies - The Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother Rose Bowl. Agata completed her Master's degree in July of 2014. For her achievements she was also awarded The Jacqueline Ward Memorial Prize for musicians who play string instruments.

During the celebration at the Royal College of Music, the annual awards ceremony HRH The Prince of Wales presented the Honorary Doctorate to renowned conductor and pianist Vladimir Ashkenazy and acclaimed soprano Dame Kiri Te Kanawa. Following the award ceremony a short concert took place featuring performances from three of the College’s most exceptional and prize-winning recent graduates: Agata Daraškaitė, saxophonist Amy Green and double bassist Rodrigo Moro Martin.

Agata Daraškaitė is active performer of chamber music with a unique passion for period performances. This is what inspired her to set up a string quartet, performing classical and early romantic chamber music with instruments typical of those times. Agata made her debut as a soloist while a student at the National Čiurlionis School of Arts with the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra and won prizes in ten competitions for young musicians in different European countries. Daraškaitė has already performed with the Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra and the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra. At the age of fourteen, the violinist moved to England and studied at the Yehudi Menuhin School, where her teacher was Natalya Boyarsky. Since then, she regularly participates in solo and chamber concerts in the United Kingdom (London's Wigmore Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall, Cadogan Hall et al.). In 2009 Agata Daraškaitė had the privilege of playing solo under conductor Vladimir Jurowski at the London Philharmonic Orchestra’s festival Between Two Worlds: Alfred Schnittke at the Queen Elizabeth Hall. In 2012 the violinist won a contest at the Royal College of Music, which gave her the opportunity to appear together with the Royal College of Music Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Edward Gardner.

In the summer of 2013 Agata Daraškaitė started playing in Kremerata Baltica, led by Gidon Kremer. Together with this orchestra the performer toured not only Europe, but also the Middle East and North America.
