50 year anniversary of his leadership of the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra

Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaitė awarded Professor Juozas Domarkas with The Grand Cross of the Order for Merits to Lithuania for spreading the culture of Lithuania and for outstanding service to the  culture, art, and education of the country.

At a concert in the National Philharmonic Hall on the 4th of October, the president congratulated maestro Juozas Domarkas with the 50 year anniversary of his leadership of the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra.

According to the President, the creative anniversary of Professor Juozas Domarkas is important for the Lithuanian music community as a whole. The maestro has created the exceptional Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra sound and has trained a large number of talented artists. Thanks to him, Lithuania is an important player in the world of music.

According to the President, the focus of Professor Juozas Domarkas on the works of Lithuanian composers has consistently nurtured and strengthened national culture.

During the 50 year leadership of the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra, Professor Juozas Domarkas nurtured a collective that has a distinctive style of interpretation with a hint of the monumental that is suited to symphonic music of all styles.
Professor Juozas Domarkas was previously awarded the Cross of the Officer of the Order of the Lithuanian Grand Duke Gediminas and Grand Cross of the Order of the Lithuanian Grand Duke Gediminas. The chief conductor of the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra has also been awarded the Lithuanian National Prize of Culture and Arts and the Government Art Prize.
