Concert season event on the first weekend of October

Renowned pianist of the younger generation Lukas Geniušas among a wide variety of other awards has won second place in a prestigious Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw, 2010. For the first weekend of October he is preparing a unique appearance: together with the Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra, under the baton of the orchestra’s artistic director and chief conductor Gintaras Rinkevičius, he will perform all five Beethoven’s piano concertos.

The five Beethoven’s concertos for piano and orchestra are one of most performed piano concertos in the repertoire of pianists, but they are exceptionally rarely performed together. If the first three concerts are still significantly influenced by Haydn and Mozart, the last ones reflect the originality and genre innovation of Ludwig van Beethoven.

Lukas Geniušas loves to perform complete cycles of works in his concerts: he has already performed 24 preludes by Sergei Rachmaninoff, as well as 24 etudes and three sonatas by Fryderyk Chopin. However, performing all five Beethoven concertos is even more of a challenge. Lukas Geniušas played all of them in one day for the first time this summer at the Carlo Felice Theatre in Genoa with the theatre’s orchestra conducted by Pietro Borgonovo.

The series “All of Ludwig van Beethoven's Piano Concertos" will feature the first three concerts on Saturday, October 5, at the Vilnius Congress Hall, the remaining two (the fifth also known as “The Imperial”) on Sunday, October 6.
