Bellini’s Norma, Raimondo in G. Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor, Leporello in W. A. Mozart’s Don Giovanni, Angelotti in G. Puccini’s Tosca, Simone in the same composer’s opera Gianni Schicchi and Don Basilio in G. Rossini’s The Barber of Seville. Norvaišas has created roles in the following operas by G. Verdi: Philip II and The Grand Inquisitor in the opera Don Carlos, Banquo in Macbeth, Tom in A Masked Ball, High Priest of Ball in Nabucco, Germont, Barone Douphol and Doctor Grenvil in La traviata and The Marquis of Calatrava in The Force of Destiny. He was also Daland in R. Wagner’s The Flying Dutchman, Professor in B. Kutavičius’ opera The Bear and Zuniga in G. Bizet’s opera Carmen. Donizetti’s opera The Elixir of Love.
The Lithuanian Opera in Chicago
When the independence movement started in late 1980s, the LNOBT started collaborating more actively with exile artists, including the Lithuanian Opera in Chicago. Since 1991 the soloist has sung in many productions of this theatre: A. Ponchielli’s I Lituani, V. Klova’s Pilėnai, G. Verdi’s A Masked Ball, G. Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor and G. Bizet’s The Pearl Fishers.
Concert activities
The soloist gives solo concerts as well. He has prepared bass parts of 15 major vocal symphony opuses together with the Lithuanian National and Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestras and the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra: opuses by W. A. Mozart, G. Verdi, A. Dvorak, J. S. Bach, L. Van Beethoven, G. Rossini, A. Honegger and other composers. In 1992 he was the first performer of the bass part in A. Šenderovas’ opus Simeni kahotam al libecha.
Norvaišas has participated in LNOBT educational projects Viva opera (homage to W. A. Mozart’s music to mark his 250th anniversary) and The Young European. These included theatralised concerts in Lithuanian schools during which he sang arias from W. A. Mozart’s operas Don Giovanni, The Marriage of Figaro and others.
The singer has been actively participating in concerts organised by the Lithuanian community in Los Angeles; he has had recitals together with pianist R. Budginas. In Los Angeles he sang G. Verdi’s Requiem, G. Rossini’s Stabat Mater, T. Dubois’ oratory Les sept paroles du Christ and others. During the Pažaislis Music Festival 2008 he performed Requiem by F. Hidas.
