Members of the quartet Giedrius Gelgotas, Lina Baublytė and Albert Stupak started playing as a flute trio in 1990 while studying at M.K.Čiurlionis Art Gymnasium. In 1996, Fausta Drūlytė joined the trio, and thus the Lithuanian Flute Quartet was established.

The LFQ is well known to the Lithuanian audience and has played and participated in many concerts and major national festivals. Also, the quartet has performed in such European countries as France, Italy and Switzerland. The recordings of the LFQ are often played on the Lithuanian National Radio.

After the graduation from Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre, the quartet has been participating at master-schools of many major European flute professors. All the members of the LFQ have received awards in various Lithuanian and international solo flute and chamber music competitions. Currently, the musicians are playing in major Lithuanian orchestras both as orchestra performers and soloists.

Giedrius Gelgotas has studied flute with William Bennett and Barbara Gisler-Haase, and is now studying for his PhD diploma at Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre, under Prof. Valentinas Gelgotas. Also, currently, Giedrius Gelgotas is working as a solo flutist at the Cairo Opera Symphony Orchestra. In 2003, Lina Baublytė graduated from Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre and acquired a PhD diploma. She has studied at the master classes given by Moshe Aron Epstein and Christian Larde and is now playing at the Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theatre Orchestra. Albert Stupak has graduated from Malmo Music Academy, and Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre. The musician has studied under such professors, as Algirdas Vizgirda, Anders Ljungar-Chapelon and Jorgen Tannander. Fausta Drūlytė is studying at Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre and doing her master diploma under Prof. Valentinas Gelgotas at the moment. She has participated in master classes with Gérard Bourgogne and William Bennett. The Lithuanian Flute Quartet studied chamber music at Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre and started playing as a group under the guidance of Prof. Valentinas Gelgotas. Moreover, the quarter has received lessons given by such professors, as Carsten Husted and William Bennett.

The group participates successfully in international festivals and competitions. In 1999, the quartet gained international recognition at the International Chamber Music Competition in Illzach, France, where the LFQ won the 3rd prize, a special prize for the best performance of a contemporary piece and a special award of the jury.

The Lithuanian Flute Quartet has prepared and performed the programmes at the festivals Gaida, Art Genda, Musica Ficta, Atžalynas, Muzikų paradas, Kuršių Nerija, Biržai Music Festival, Druskomanija, Forte Riga (Latvia) and FIMU 2002 (France). Moreover, the group has given concerts in many European countries.

The main repertoire of the quartet consists of the pieces composed originally for flute quartets and ranges from classical to the most modern contemporary music styles.
