The organist Jurgita Kazakeviciute (b. 1975), the former student of Juozas Gruodis Conservatoire (she studied piano with A. Andriuškevičius), graduated from the Lithuanian Academy of Musicwhere she received an MA in 2002. Since 2003, she has been a PhD student at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre (supervised by doc. V. Survilaitė). Jurgita’s teachers – the organists Balys Vaitkus, Audra Telksnytė, Ass. Prof. Virginija Survilaitė and the pianist R. Ibelhauptienė – have emphasised the suggestive manner and maturity of the organist’s performance as well as her perfect technique, particular interest in the problems of musical interpretation.
In 2001 – 2003 the organist studied in Mozarteum (Austria) with Prof. H. Metzger (organ) and Prof. H.Miki (piano); she attended master classes held by Prof. J. Tuma in Czech Republic (2001), Maljorca (Spain, 2004) and Prof. E. Bellotti in Lithuania (2004).
While still at the Academy, Jurgita Kazakeviciute participated in festivals in Lithuania and abroad; she successfully performed in international organ competitions, for instance, in Landau (Germany, 2002), International M. K. Čiurlionis Piano and Organ Competition, Vilnius (2003), 6th Paris City Organ Competition (France, 2004), and in 2004, Jurgita was the winner the 1st J. Naujalis Competition for Young Organists. In 2007 the organist won the 1st Prize in the International Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis Piano and Organ Competition.
Jurgita Kazakeviciute has been performing extensively in concert halls and churches of Lithuania; she has given concerts in Germany, Spain, Austria and France. In 2003, Jurgita performed the part of organ during the mass at the church of St. Vitale in Salzburg, which was broadcasted by the Austrian National Radio.
The organist’s concerts include music of various epochs and styles, starting from baroque (J. S. Bach and D. Buxtehude) to contemporary (O. Messiaen and A. Martinaitis) compositions, including not only opuses by famous composers, but also less often performed and even yet unknown music by old masters.
