The chamber ensemble Armonas Trio was founded in 1988. Its members – Ingrida Armonaitė (violin), Rimantas Armonas (cello) and Irena Uss (piano) – are famous Lithuanian musicians, internationally acclaimed soloists and performers of chamber music. All three of them teach at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre. The ensemble gives concerts in Lithuania and abroad and often performs in festivals of contemporary music. The repertoire of Armonas Trio includes not only classical and romanticist music, but also opuses by contemporary composers. Their concert programmes are not lacking in pieces by contemporary Lithuanian composers. The ensemble was the first to perform piano trios by V.Barkauskas, R.Šileika, J.Juozapaitis, A.Jasenka, V.Germanavičius amongst others. On the 3rd October 2003 in the Great Hall of the Lithuanian National Philharmonic, Armonas Trio gave a concert, which was broadcast to 17 countries by Euroradio. The musicologist Vladas Zalatoris commented on this concert: “Lithuanian Radio has hit the mark by choosing this ensemble. The ensemble has consistently been moving towards its present, we could say, culmination in its concert activities. The evening programme, and especially the performance, have met the highest standards. Demonstrating a rare harmony in joint music making, which has united all the components of performance into a single whole, the ensemble has also revealed different creative individualities of its members without levelling them.”
