Kaunas Music Ensemble “Ainiai” was founded in 1991, on the initiative of Jonas Urbonas and the actor of the Kaunas Drama Theater Petras Venclova. “Ainiai” is the first professional folk music ensemble which was legalized as a budgetary institution after the restoration of the independence of Lithuania. This ensemble presents unique and traditional Lithuanian folk music programs and authentic instruments in Lithuania and abroad. In the concerts of the ensemble, especially in the educational and theatricalized programs, one can hear about 20 different Lithuanian musical instruments: hornpipe, kanklės (a Lithuanian plucked string instrument (chordophone)), horns, poppies, daudytės (a Lithuanian wind instrument), cymbals, tabals, scones and many others. With the help of these instruments the ensemble performs Lithuanian folk songs and dances, as well as original pieces of various composers. All the musicians of the ensemble “Ainiai” are instrumentalists and play more than one instrument.

“Ainiai” has toured in Russia, Ukraine, Germany, England, Poland, France, Norway, the USA, Canada, Sweden, Belgium, South Korea and other countries. The team is in close contact with various communities and on important occasions performs in exclusive spaces. The most notable ones are concerts at the House of the Lithuanian Community in the UK, a performance at the Kovent Garden Hall, Beverlly Festival (England), Hamburg (Germany) fair. During the tour in US, after one of the esnemble's performance, the President of Lithuania Valdas Adamkus praised the ensemble, saying: “in terms of Lithuanian music, the ensemble “Ainiai“ should be mentioned separately“.

The ensemble regularly participates in Kaunas City Days and other Kaunas holidays. Along with the concerts for adults, the ensemble has been pursuing educational activities since the very beginning of its activities, which it propagates in Lithuanian schools and kindergartens. The ensemble has eleven professional musicians: three singers and instrumentalists. Since 2012, Kaunas music ensemble “Ainiai“ has been a part of the concert institution “Kauno santaka“, ensemble's concertmaster is a soloist Rytis Janilionis. Currently, the main activities of the ensemble “Ainiai“ are theatricalized music programs and active educational activities. The viewers were especially interested in, and highly aprreciated the theatricalized musical comedies “Senberniai“, “Ar Amerika pirtyje?!“, educational programs “Lino darbų pasaka“, “Palangos Juzė, “Piemenėlių dainos“.
